What is vig?+×
Vig, or juice, is the margin the sportsbook builds into its prices. It is why the implied probabilities of both sides of a market add up to more than 100%.
How is the vig removed?+×
We convert both odds to implied probabilities and scale them down so they sum to exactly 100%. The multiplicative method scales proportionally and is the industry default. The additive method subtracts the margin evenly, which some prefer for lopsided markets.
Why do fair odds matter?+×
Fair, no-vig odds from a sharp book like Pinnacle are the best available estimate of an outcome's true probability. They are the benchmark for judging whether any other price is +EV.
How do I use this to find +EV bets?+×
Take a sharp market, remove the vig here, then compare the fair line to prices at other books. Any book offering better odds than the fair line is giving you positive expected value.
